BelleVie raises over £500 for Dementia Action Week

It has been a bustling month at Bellevie as we actively supported Dementia Action Week to raise funds for dementia research. We organised two fantastic events, one in Northumberland and another in Oxford, brimming with music, tea, cake, and exciting prizes. Our fantastic community connectors, Susan and Fraser, did an amazing job organising these events. They not only helped raise money, but also added a lot of fun and excitement to the day for everyone who came. Their efforts were truly outstanding and made the event a memorable and enjoyable experience for all.

We are happy to announce that we successfully raised a total of £550! This was donated to Alzheimer’s Research UK and Dementia UK, to help fund vital research and provide financial aid for dedicated nurses and specialists offering support to people living with dementia.

What is Dementia action week?

Dementia Action Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness, understanding, and promote action on dementia. The campaign runs for a week and helps to highlight challenges faced by people living with dementia, their families, and their carers. The goal of the campaign is to reduce stigma, increase knowledge, and inspire people and organisations to help raise awareness and funds for research and services.

Melodies and Memories

In Oxford, we hosted the captivating “Melodies and Memories” event at the charming Letcombe Regis Village Hall, situated just outside Wantage in Oxfordshire. We showcased the talents of local musicians – some of which were our very own Wellbeing Support Workers – for the local community and people we support to enjoy. Corrine amazed everyone with her piano skills, Domi mesmerised the audience with guitar melodies, and local singer-songwriter Simon Emm delighted everyone with his musicianship.

We also had some fantastic food which was provided by local businesses. Nai’s Eatery helped out by providing some incredible sandwiches enjoyed by all and Marcopolo Bakery  provided  some amazing baked goods, which went down great over a cuppa.

Forget me-not Sunday

In Northumberland, we hosted our “Forget Me-Not Sunday” event at the local Isabella Centre in Blyth. The day was filled with flower decorating, delicious refreshments, and raffles. Our guests were treated to complimentary beauty treatments, including fantastic manicures provided by one of our local partners. The event also featured enjoyable music with guest singers performing beloved classics that got everyone dancing and singing along.

31 Miles

Susan, our former Wellbeing support worker who has now become a community connector, went above and beyond in May to further contribute to dementia research. She actively participated in a challenge by Dementia UK, walking a total of 31 miles throughout the month, and successfully raised an additional £150 for this cause!
