As Operations Leader at BelleVie, Dan Formby has been the driving force behind building a culture of continuous learning and professional growth across the organisation. His vision ensures that every colleague—regardless of age, role, or background—has access to meaningful development opportunities.
Recognising that BelleVie sits outside the apprenticeship levy, Dan worked tirelessly to secure partnerships with T2, Teesside University, and Avado, enabling colleagues to pursue apprenticeships from Level 2 through to postgraduate qualifications. Thanks to his leadership, 14% of colleagues have enrolled, with participants aged 22 to 60. Apprenticeships range from Lead Adult Care Work (Levels 2–5) to a foundational degree in HR and even a Master’s in Sustainability. Two colleagues have already successfully completed their apprenticeships, with many more on track to follow—a testament to Dan’s ability to inspire staff to invest in their own careers.
Dan also listened closely to frontline feedback and spearheaded a transformation of BelleVie’s training provision. He led the move to My Learning Cloud, a flexible e-learning platform accessible via mobile, crucial for our remote, self-managing teams. Working with both technology partners and internal teams, Dan ensured seamless integration with BelleVie’s bespoke software, giving colleagues direct visibility of their training compliance without additional logins. This innovation has made training more accessible, efficient, and engaging.
By combining strategic partnerships, technological innovation, and a deep commitment to colleague development, Dan has created a workforce development framework that supports both personal ambitions and organisational growth. His determination to provide accessible learning opportunities has not only enhanced skills and confidence across the workforce but has also strengthened BelleVie’s reputation as an employer where people can thrive.
